The Spring Summer 2019 collection titled THE ABNORMAL SYMMETRY is inspired by a Japanese graphic artist - Satoshi Kon’s graphic film - The Perfect Blue. The film analyses the pop icon phenomenon, fame and its psychological impact on the performer. And in today's social media-reliant society, Perfect Blue's questions of selfhood, construct and celebrity hold more significance than ever before.
The collection illustrates and explores the idea of the obscure state of self identity and realization and the dubious line between reality and illusion. Raw Japanese denim, cotton tail, original printed satin and seersucker chiffon, tulle and textured knits are some of the key fabrics and textures of the collection while the colour story explores the realms of bluish, greyish tones with hints of blacks and beiges and pops of yellow, red and lavender. The collection utilizes the classic ALEX S. YU design aesthetics and details such as mixed media materials, ruffles and playful proportions to create the latest collection of women’s, men’s and unisex garments and accessories.
THE ABNORMAL SYMMETRY is about finding whimsy through orderly precision.
