The SS2018 collection is titled The Vacant Chaos. The collection is inspired largely by teenage summer camps and The Virgin Suicides, a film by Sofia Coppola. The endless blue skies, the warm sun’s glaze, the scattered white clouds and the fresh smell of youth provides the undertone of the collection. The feeling of a fresh adolescent love that is sort of clueless, very naive and raw inspired the vibes of the collection. The resentment, confusion and anticipation of growing up, falling in love and following disciplines weave the tone and mood of the collection.
ALEX S. YU takes references from the staple summer camp wears such as set ensembles, work shirts and functional pockets and belts to create details in the collection. The collection also featured the signature ALEX S. YU usages of ruffles, mixings of colours and textures and plays with silhouettes and shapes. The collection mixes colours and textures, while creating a cohesive vibe throughout. Womenswear and menswear are both featured in the collection, while some of the pieces are meant to be unisex, which is a new foray for Yu.
